For Love of Learning: Reed’s Centennial Conference

In spring 2009, Reed College invited alumni, parents, and friends to participate in a dynamic conversation about teaching and learning at Reed. “For Love of Learning: Reed’s Centennial Conference,” which launched the celebration of Reed’s upcoming centennial, asked participants to reflect on a century of learning and offer their visions for Reed’s next 100 years.

Events were held in cities across the country and in London; each began with a local alumni speaker, who talked about his or her experience at Reed and beyond. President Colin Diver then led discussions with professors about teaching at Reed and the community that makes the passion for education at Reed possible. Each event also included a reception, a short video, and small-group discussions.

Record numbers of Reedies contributed to these conversations, sharing insights about how their educational experience shaped them and thoughts about what makes Reed’s centennial a meaningful institutional touchstone.
